Sector overview

The global expertise in the region extends across robotics, wireless technology, silicon chip design and sensors to embedded software. This provides a thriving ecosystem of start-ups, small and medium sized companies, consultancies and multinationals across healthcare, renewable energy, defence and aerospace as well as consumer and industrial electronics and IT.

The Bristol and Bath region is at the heart of the largest cluster of silicon designers outside the US (source: Future Horizons) and hosts one of only six Science Cities in the UK. Globally respected private and public research and development laboratories are driving the future of technology from nanotechnology for new materials to quantum processing and photonics.

The High Tech Sector Group includes representatives from small and large companies in both hardware and software, as well networks and support organisations with a wide range of knowledge and skills in the global high tech industry. The group works with the other sector groups in the LEP and is developing a variety of projects suggested by companies in the region including Special Interest Groups (SIG) and a Cluster Map.
