Cllr Matthew Riddle
Cllr Matthew Riddle was born and bred in South Gloucestershire and attended the Castle School in Thornbury before going on to study agriculture at Seale-Hayne College in Devon. Since 1997 he has held a lectureship in agriculture at Bridgwater College, Somerset.
He was elected to South Gloucestershire Council in 2003 for the Severn Ward and has served on the Planning Committee and the Community Care and Housing Select Committee. He was the Executive Member for Community Care and Housing (adult social services and strategic housing) between 2007 and 2012 and then served for two years as the Chairman of the Adults and Housing Committee when the council changed to a committee style of governance.
Matthew was elected the Vice Chairman of the Council in May 2014 but stepped down after being appointed the Leader of the Council in September. He is currently serving as the Vice Chairman of the Lower Severn Internal Drainage Board and is a member of the Wessex Regional Flood and Coastal Committee.
Matthew is married to Ruth and has two children. He is an active member of a local church and his interests include orchard cultivation and cider making.
